Rayaan is 16-years-old, and faces an incredibly tough battle. He lives with a very rare and severe genetic condition called FADD-related immunodeficiency, which was diagnosed when he was fourteen. The condition brings a host of challenges – including serious infections, liver inflammation and difficult feverish episodes with seizures. Rayaan’s deepest wish was to meet a very famous action hero/movie star, and we were thrilled to be able make it happen! Rayaan had a 30-minute Zoom call with his hero (who must remain anonymous). During their chat, the actor offered powerful words of encouragement, urging Rayaan to keep up with his physio and to stay positive despite his immense struggle. The impact of the call was nothing short of miraculous. Rayaan had been struggling to walk without his braces – but upon speaking with his hero, he found a renewed sense of purpose and energy and with incredible grit and determination, he was walking with just his frame again, and his physio work was back on track – a truly incredible outcome! Rayaan’s sister said “We as a family can’t thank you enough for granting Rayaan his special wish. I remember when I first spoke to Pritti, we were just throwing ideas around – which were more or less superhero-related – because Rayaan eats, breathes and lives in that world. Time was of the essence due to his upcoming bone marrow transplant. Pritti was very honest and didn’t think something of this scale could be achieved. Rayaan getting to hold a Zoom call with his favourite superhero put the biggest smile on everyone’s faces. I’ll never forget the events leading up to that call – Rayaan recognising who the voice belonged to, and the utter look of shock on his face! What was supposed to be a 10-minute call lasted around 90 minutes (I kept a record of the time!). The actor gave Rayaan words of encouragement, especially regarding his physio, made jokes, and really gave Rayaan the time of day. They got on like two best friends catching up after a long break. At one point, it was getting so distracting for the superhero that he kicked everyone else out of the room so they could talk properly! Pritti is an amazing human being for her vision with this charity. She may think she’s only granting these precious children their wish, but as a family unit, each of us took something from this that my heart and words can’t express. I will forever be in your debt and will be following your charity’s journey from here on out. And if I’m ever in a position to help, I won’t think twice. Pritti, you should be so proud of yourself and your charity.”
